[Thursday, November 21, 2024]

Several lecturers from the English Language Education Program (PBI) FKIP UMS traveled to the English Language Education Program FKIP Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto (UMP) to participate in a Staff Exchange program in the form of a Visiting Scholar initiative. This activity aims to initiate and follow up on the UMS-UMP cooperation agreement in the field of Tri Dharma Higher Education, particularly in education. The program aims to enhance the recognition of the program in the field of education and to serve as a quality benchmarking for teaching between both institutions. There are two learning schemes in this Visiting Scholar program, namely guest lectures and regular class teaching. Lecturers involved in guest lectures include Mauly Halwat Hikmat, Ph.D., who delivered a lecture on “Introduction to Research Methods in ELT,” and Dr. Titis Setyabudi, M.A., who taught “English Literature in ELT.” The lecturers involved in the regular teaching scheme are Agus Wijayanto, Ph.D., who taught “Scientific Writing,” Dr. Aryati Prasetyarini, M.Pd., who taught “Grammar in Use in ELT,” and Dr. Qanitah Masykuroh, M.Hum., who taught “Syntax.” The program was conducted from November 21 to November 22, 2024.

The event began with a welcome ceremony for the UMS lecturers by the FKIP UMP Dean’s office, represented by Vice Dean I Feisal Aziez, Ph.D., Vice Dean II Dr. Desti Pujiati, M.Pd., and Vice Dean III Dedy Irawan, M.Pd. This was followed by guest lectures for students from semesters 5 and 7, as well as regular classes for students from semesters 1, 3, and 5. Students who attended included both domestic students and international students from Gambia and Mali. These students were from both regular and international programs. Regarding this program, the Head of the PBI FKIP UMS, Dr. Titis Setyabudi, M.A., stated, “This program not only strengthens the relationship between Muhammadiyah universities but is also beneficial for sharing human resources among the lecturers of each university. This will benefit the students as they experience different teaching environments with lecturers from other universities. Furthermore, this program could be continued with other initiatives such as student exchange.” Similar sentiments were expressed by the Head of the PBI FKIP, Dodi Siraj Muamar Zain, Ph.D., who welcomed the collaboration and said, “We are grateful for the willingness of the PBI FKIP UMS lecturers to establish this cooperation.” He added that he hopes more programs such as student exchanges, joint research, and joint articles will be initiated in the future.

Previously, UMS and UMP had signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) for collaboration in the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, including education, research, and community service, attended by representatives of the FKIP UMP Dean, Dr. Elly Hasan Sadeli, and the FKIP UMS Dean represented by Mauly Halwat Hikmat, Ph.D., as Vice Dean I for Academic Affairs.
