Sumpah Pemuda Day

Every 28 October, Indonesia commemorates Sumpah Pemuda day, a milestone that marks the coming together of young people from across Nusantara. On 28 October 1928, at the Second Youth Congress, they pledged ‘Satu Nusa, Satu Bangsa, Satu Bahasa (one Nusa, One Nation, One Language)’, a sacred promise that became the foundation of Indonesia’s struggle for independence.

Sumpah Pemuda is not just a pledge, but also a symbol of the spirit of unity. Amidst differences in ethnicity, religion, and culture, the youth were able to unite their vision and mission to achieve an independent Indonesia. It is this spirit that we must continue to inherit and actualise in the life of the nation and state. In this era of globalization, the challenges faced by the younger generation are increasingly complex. However, the spirit of Sumpah Pemuda must remain a compass in facing every challenge. Therefore, let us make Sumpah Pemuda day a momentum to strengthen the sense of nationalism and patriotism, and continue to work for a more advanced Indonesia.
