On Friday, March 12, 2021 DEE UMS was having a workshop for enhancing teachers’ professionalism. This workshop is one of the community services conducted regularly in this department. The workshop was moderated by Titis Setyabudi M.A, and the participation of this even was mostly English teacher from Senior High school in Surakarta, Indonesia. For this time, as many as 30 English teachers from various school in Surakarta participated in this event.
There were four speakers, who are all the DEE lecturer, delivered the four different topics related to the English teaching and learning. Prof.Dr. Endang Fauziati, M.Hum started the workshop as the first presenter. She delivered the topic about “Child Friendly Classroom Management”. She mentioned that classroom management has become one of the important point to support the teaching and learning process that teacher must consider it.
The second presenter was Fitri Kurniawan, S.Pd., M.ResEdu, one of junior lecturers in DEE. Mr. Fitri delivered the talk about the advantage of using Ice Cream application to make a video for learning. This application was user friendly since it is quite simple and easy to use. Moreover, this app can be very helpful since most of the teaching and learning process this pandemic era was conducted via online.
The other two speakers were Dra. Rini Fatmawati, M.Pd. who delivered the idea of adapting reading materials to English learning based on scientific approach, and Muamaroh, Ph.D who talked about EFL writing skills: perception, problem, and solution. The activity was then continued with question and answer session with most of the teacher showed the big enthusiasm.
